the basics of energetic hygene and maintenance
We all know that our physical bodies, objects, and the spaces we occupy require regular maintenance to remain functional and in optimal condition. The same applies to our energy. Although most people are unaware of the energetic dimension of our experience, just as we were once unaware of microorganisms like germs and bacteria, it does not negate its existence and effects.
Empaths and energy-sensitive individuals are generally more attuned to the effects of neglecting energetic hygiene and maintenance, but the practices I will describe here will benefit even those with lower sensitivity - similarly to how individuals with a lesser sensitivity to unpleasant odors still benefit from regular bathing and taking out their trash.
So, what are the basics of energetic hygiene, how can we incorporate them into our daily lives, and what benefits can they bring us? Read on to find out.
This topic is extremely large and nuanced, and I'm sure I'll write on this again in more depth, but for now let's focus on the basics - there are two things one has to tend to on a recurring basis in order to ensure and maintain optimal energetic state - their own field as well as the field of the space they occupy or regularly stay in. This would be more for those, who were born with particular contracts of working with the collective energy field as well as Earth's energetic grid, but again, here we will focus on the basics.
Personal field, it's maintenance, detriments of neglecting it.
The human Lightbody or Aura is comprised of multiple interconnected layers of electromagnetic fields of energy that extend all around the physical body like an energy shield covering and protecting all of the bodies. Our Lightbody is what projects our Consciousness through a holographic template that generates the physical manifestations we experience within this material reality, so the health or lack thereof of our Lightbody directly impacts our physical health and wellbeing as well as the experiences we have in the physical.
There are a number of things that can go wrong with our Lightbody - traumatic damage, blockages in the flow of energy, rips and tears in the Aura, negative cords and attachments syphoning energy to name just a few. Many of the troubles tormenting humans today, such as Obsessive-Compulsive disorders, panic attacks, depression, addictions, nightmares, lack of energy are symptoms of ones Lightbody being damaged or compromised in it's function.
Apart from inherited trauma, the biggest contributing factor to Lightbody damage and subsequent susceptibility to a range of negative issues is the state of our conscious and subconscious mind. There are states of perception that connect us with the flow of life-sustaining energy and there are others that impair it. As each of us is sustained through an energetic and vibrational connection with the Source of our being, that holds the highest frequency of unity and love, being attuned to these frequencies in your beliefs, thought and actions allows for this flow to sustain our Lighbdody and thus ensure it's health. It's quite like our immune system in a way - if you give your body what it needs it will have it function properly and ward off pathogens and viruses. If you neglect your bodies needs it will lead to your immunity being compromised and open you up for a variety of subsequent issues. So thoughts, beliefs, words, actions that are low in frequency such as fear, hatred, greed, etc, misalign you with the life-sustaining flow of energy and over time lead to your Lightbody weakening, rips and tears appearing in your aura, energy bleeding out, making you susceptible to opportunistic and parasitic influences that further complicate the situation.

Understanding this and taking responsibility for the direction and content of your thoughts, beliefs, perceptions and feelings is the best long-term strategy for ensuring Lightbody health. I will not go into detail on how to do that here, as that is another large topic and I'll address it another time, but the general guidance is to recognise, that the Source of your being is utterly loving, it is like a Sun, giving its energy freely to all there is on the planet and doing your best to wholeheartedly match it's frequency allows it to flow uninhibited through you and thus nurture and sustain you. This is not about lying to yourself, this is not about denying the painful and the ugly, this is simply about trying to find your way to the light through a maze of discordant beliefs, behaviours and thoughts you have internalised along the way, that ultimately compromise and impair the health of your Lightbody. So a super practical example here - if the Source is love, self-hate is a state that will inhibit this flow of energy. That's ultimately why self-hate feels so painful - it's out of alignment with the life-sustaining flow and your system can register it. If you recognise you live in a state of self-hate, you got to look at the underlying beliefs and perceptions and find a way to untie their knot, so that you can re-attune yourself. This work is really the most important work for the majority of people on our planet at this time, it is not always easy to do it, but it is of paramount importance.
Shielding.
Shielding is a practice of directing ones attention and intention to strengthen and if needed repair the Lightbody. Your stream of attention is quite literally a stream of energy. Where you direct your attention - energy flows. Working in alignment with the Principles of Universal Laws (https://ascensionglossary.com/index.php/Thirteen_Principles_of_Natural_Laws) the process of direction your attention and intention will have an effect on numerous levels of your being. So, speaking simply, through a regular practice of meditation and visualisation you can repair, strengthen and build your Lightbody.
There are a number of ways this can be done, here are a few suggestions:
For an intuitive visualization, begin by lying down comfortably with your body straight and your limbs uncrossed. Take a moment to calm your mind by focusing on your breath, the sensations in your body, or a repeating mantra or affirmation. Once you feel centered in the present moment, visualize a white light filling your body. Continue this visualization for as long as you can, as the longer you practice, the stronger the effect will be. You can take this practice a step further by paying attention to how your field feels and maybe noticing areas that require your extra attention or specifically tending to the areas where you know you have a problem. You can introduce colour, if you feel so guided as well. So for example you might feel something is off in your stomach and feel intuitively guided to visualise green light in that area. You can as well place your hands onto your body or around it as you feel guided. Deeply breathing, humming, singing or reciting a positive affirmation or a mantra will be beneficial to this process as well. This is the most basic shielding practice, yet it can be very effective if done regularly, preferably in the morning and before you drift off to sleep. It is ok if you don't feel much while performing this practice, although many people who never practiced anything like this might be very surprised to notice how much they can actually feel. One way or another, the more you practice - the more you'll become attuned and adept at reading your own energy and giving it care that it requires. Familiarising yourself with how your own aligned state feels will also be important when dealing with the outside world, other people's energetic fields and ultimately learning how to discern what is in alignment for you and what is not.

This is the most basic and easy to use technique that can be used to do basic shielding as well as compliment two of the practices I stated above - Reiki. Reiki is a renowned and widely used energy healing technique that you'd be using a light version of if you follow my advice in the first shielding technique I mentioned when intuitively placing hands on and around your body. I have been trained to perform Reiki and offer as one of my paid services, but there is a free option you can use as well.
Here is my favourite place to go to for distance Reiki, which I've been using daily for years now and although it doesn't require any effort from you, is extremely effective. You don't need to watch or listen, simply play at the background when you go about your day or sleep. They have separate videos dedicated to shielding, clearing the auric field, grounding and many more, but I personally love to use compiled lists for myself throughout the day as well as I sleep. This made a HUGE difference for me throughout the years and I can't recommend using it enough. Lastly, it is of a great importance and effectiveness to regularly do what is called commanding your personal energy field. By stating your Intent, Consent and Authority (https://ascensionglossary.com/index.php/Law_of_Intent) you can direct and define what you allow or don't allow into your field. In addition to the practices described above you can regularly state, in your internal voice or outloud what you choose your alignment to be. It can be your own words or something like “I only allow and content to that, which is in the highest alignment for myself and all” or “My declaration of intention is to serve my Source. I commit to serve my highest power fully, completely and totally. I am God. I am Sovereign. I am Free!”
